Ivo Sedlacek studied at the Musical Faculty of Prague’s prestigious Academy of Performing Arts, under the direct tutelage of Professor Vaclav Snitil. Ivo then spent five years studying Indian classical music with some of India’s most famous musicians. While in India he also taught European music and performed numerous solo violin recitals throughout the subcontinent.
Over time Ivo developed his own inimitable musical style, which combines the mastery of numerous musical instruments along with spontaneous inspiration – leading to a subtle uplifting and therapeutic connection with the listener. Alongside traditional instruments, he employs a broad range of special and unique instruments, some of which are one of a kind.
In the field of music therapy, apart from standard methods, his focus is transpersonal music therapy, particularly the application of a wide spectrum of inspired live music as a key element of music therapy practice. He provides both individual and group music therapy, and in recent times has held seminars alongside the preeminent Czech music therapist Matej Lipsky.
He has worked as a music therapist in a special institution for minors in Hvozdy near Prague for several years. His original approach to working with children from Hvozdy has been met with great interest from both professionals as well as the general public. And, he has been invited to lead courses and seminars for other music therapy practitioners.
At present he leads music therapy in Jedlicka Institute in Liberec. He is a member of Music Therapy Association of Czech Republic.
Ivo has performed concerts and conducted workshops throughout Europe, in India, Taiwan, Israel, and Japan. He has also been the subject of numerous television and radio documentaries.
